Just A Dream
No one can hear the scream
at night
falling to my death
alone
in the darkness.
Where I am falling from
this moment
is unknown to myself
and the
point of origin is a mystery.
The ground is growing larger
and closer
ready to end all that blinds
my sight
on a life yet to come.
The wind rushes across the fear
on my face
reacting to the moment that will take
life away
from some one who holds it close.
heartbeats
tears
prayers
pleads
guilt
remorse
regret
I close my eyes and all is quiet
and motionless
floating down like a feather
with time
standing still on my shoulders.
Light flashes and there is a child
alone
on a Saturday morning in the yard
warm
in a sweater made just for him.
No worries or fears of what lies
ahead
on his road to where old people
sit and wait
for their turn to be taken away.
He stands up and is now a man
weathered
and tired from the travels
that took
him to nowhere and back.
relief
smiles
sighs
anticipation
laughs
warmth
compassion
No disappointment in the visions
of yesterday
or of those to come tomorrow
while
thinking of hitting the bottom.
Eyes open and time resumes with
the wind
rushing past a face of content
smiling
as the earth approaches non-stop.
The symphony reaches a climatic
point
where strings vibrate the atmosphere
violently
and drums roar to out into the sky.
Muscles tighten as I brace for impact
scared
that the pain of landing will end me
and time
stops and all is forgotten, forever.
Sheets fly as I jump up in bed
crying
sweat runs and drips echo into eternity
fading
away as I smile knowing it was just a dream.
